Relocation packages in Germany: annualize before you smile

Relocation support can make an offer feel generous in week one and thin by month four. Employment consultations in Germany should treat housing stipends, shipping, and temporary commuting aid as time-bound cashflows—not as permanent salary equivalents.

Build a year-one view

List each relocation line with start and end dates. Convert the total into a monthly figure for months 1–12. Compare that curve to a modest base increase that would continue into year two. The comparison often clarifies which ask deserves your limited leverage.

Negotiate duration, not only amount

Extending temporary housing by two months can matter more than a larger one-time shipping credit. Duration talks also reveal how flexible the employer is without forcing a base fight they have already closed.
